The British jeep research group is a relaxed and easy going group of jeep enthusiasts. We exist to research the use of the American jeep in British service, both in wartime and in the postwar years. All discussion and news is managed on the Facebook page 'WW2 Jeeps Rebuilt by the British Army'. This is managed by the three admins who collate and organise all research materials -

Having sold my long term classic car, I wanted something else and had always longed for a WW2 Jeep, so started the challenge of finding one. In 2011 I bought a Ford GPW, built in July 1942 and discovered it had been used by the British army until struck off in April 1959 having been through the Rebuild programme.
This led me to develop an interest in Rebuilds, British jeeps and also their postwar use.
I started the “WW2 jeeps rebuilt by British Army” facebook group to build a data-base on the British Jeep and help fellow owners in our quest to research our jeeps.
Previously I researched my family history back to 1545.
I currently own a 1942 jeep, August 1942 jeep trailer (MBT), 1945 GMC Tipper and a Nov.41 Farmall BN tractor

My fascination with WW2 and the vehicles that were used in it began as a teenager with the stories told to me by my grandfather, who had served in the North Africa and Italian campaigns in WW2.
I had always wanted a jeep, and in 2011 that became a reality when I bought a 1944 Willys MB. Eventually I managed to get my vehicle records from the army to confirm what I had always hoped, that my jeep had served in the British army, and ever since I have been fascinated by the history of the Jeep in British service. My collection is based around the British airborne in WW2 and the immediate postwar years, and includes a 10cwt airborne trailer, a 1942 Royal Enfield WD/RE 'Flying Flea', a 1944 BSA Parabike, and a 1944 Dodge WC51. I work full-time as a science fiction novelist, and also research and teach historical European swordsmanship. |

After being active in aviation museums, restoration and history for over 25 years, during a family vacation in Normandy in 2012 I discovered I needed a jeep. In 2013 I helped drive a friend’s MB to the site of the Willys factory Toledo, Ohio, where it had been built in 1943. In 2014 I bought a Willys MB, built in October 1944 and used by the Italian police until civilianised in 1960.
This led me to develop and interest in postwar and non-US jeep use, first in Italy, then in Britain and someday inevitably in France. A co-administrator of the British Jeep and Italian MB/GPW Facebook groups, I am building up a jeep library and collect dataplates. I am also a technical commissioner for ASI, the Italian vintage vehicle club. I teach US history at LUISS University and Aerospace history at the Italian Air Force Academy and write for the aviation press. I live in Rome with my wife, daughter, 21 year-old cat and 72 year old jeep. My jeep blog, largely out of date, is https://gregorysjeep.wordpress.com |
